Behind the Board

Small quests for a brighter everyday life.

Why we built SideQuestIdeas, how the mission library is curated, and the standards of player trust and privacy behind every draw.

Origin & Purpose

Breaking Daily Monotony and Choice Paralysis

In role-playing games, a side quest offers an enjoyable, low-stakes detour from the heavy main story line. It invites you to explore an unfamiliar alley, help an eccentric stranger, craft a rare trinket, or test a new ability.

In real life, free time often dissolves between routine responsibilities and infinite digital feeds. When you ask yourself “What should I do right now?”, choice paralysis often leads back to the same familiar apps. SideQuestIdeas reframes unstructured hours into concrete, achievable micro-adventures with a clear starting point, physical action, and a visible finish line.

Real-World Focus

Encourages hands-on creation, observation, kindness, and outdoor wandering instead of passive consumption.

No Endless Lists

Instead of overwhelming you with hundreds of options at once, we give you one clear mission to focus on.

Flexible Adaptation

Every quest is an invitation. Adapt the rules to your neighborhood, energy level, weather, or companions.

Curation & Integrity

342 Hand-Crafted Missions, Built to Ship Locally

SideQuestIdeas does not generate quests via real-time AI prompts on every draw. Instead, every mission comes from a curated catalog of 342 reviewed entries that ships directly with the application. When you draw, everything is selected instantly on your device with zero network lag and no unpredictable hallucinations.

Each card has one primary category plus focused supporting tags, while difficulty and time remain separate. Review every result and adapt or skip it when the location, cost, equipment, ability, consent, or situation makes it unsuitable.

Four Paths

Quests are balanced across four paths: Explore for new ground, Create for finished things, Connect for time with people, and Level Up for looking after yourself. Each mission also carries tags for the activity, the company, the setting, and the mood.

Instant Quests vs. Long Campaigns

Most of the catalog is Instant Quests you can finish in one go, from a few minutes to a day trip, alongside a smaller set of Long Campaigns that run across several sessions. Each card clearly labels time scale and difficulty before you accept.

Life Questlines

For explorers looking for sustained continuity, Life Questlines group related quests into thematic 5-to-10 step sequences (such as Local Explorer, Make Something Real, or Everyday Courage). Runs are tracked in your journal with milestones and flexible pacing.

Player Sovereignty & Data Ethics

Local-First: No Account Required, No Feeds

We believe utility tools should respect your attention and personal data. SideQuestIdeas works fully without registration or commercial trackers. Guest play stays in this browser; a Google sign-in is optional.

Safety & Disclaimers

Real-World Awareness & Tabletop Status

While side quests are designed to be playful and adventurous, personal safety, environmental awareness, and mutual consent always take precedence over completing any objective.

Treat prompts as creative inspiration. Always assess the weather, terrain, and social context before heading out on a mission.

Physical Safety & Law

Always prioritize personal safety, environmental conditions, and legal compliance. Respect private property, local regulations, and personal boundaries on social or outdoor missions.

Craftsmanship & Attribution

Art, Lettering & Audio Credits

Every visual seal, font choice, and sound effect was chosen to evoke the warmth of a vintage adventurer’s notebook and the physical tactility of an expedition journal.

From the hand-pressed wax seals to the responsive mechanical soundscapes, our interface aims to bring back the sensory delight of paper tools.

Typography

Stamp lettering and dispatch seals use Special Elite by Astigmatic, self-hosted under the Apache License 2.0. Editorial headers use classic book serifs.

Custom Illustrations

Questline covers, Daily Quest artwork, and category spot illustrations were crafted specifically for SideQuestIdeas to create a warm, tactile explorer journal aesthetic.

Synthesized Audio

Tactile clicks, stamps, and completed chimes are generated natively in the browser via the Web Audio API, keeping page weight lightweight and responsive.
